The Bancourt Hotel

Kents Cavern is one of the most important Palaeolithic caves in Northern Europe and the oldest recognisable human dwelling in Britain. It holds beautiful and spectacular geological formations and significant prehistoric finds, some over 700,000 years old.
Kents Cavern welcomes everyone.

Assistance is likely to be required by some visitors as there are steep gradients of up to 1:4 - 1:5, both in the caves and on the Woodland Trail. There are also nine steps on the tour of the caves, with a narrow point on route of 550mm( 21.5 inches) at ground level.

The caves are electrically lit and there is a concrete path throughout. There will however be periods of reduced lighting, and one short spell of complete darkness. The temperature is a constant 14C, and suitable footwear should be worn.

Access for wheelchair users is restricted to the first chamber (The Vestibule), where they may experience an introductory sound and light show. During the sound and light show there are short periods of rapidly flashing light.

This is offered free of charge to all registered disabled visitors and carers. There is no concessionary rate for the full cave tour.

We have a designated WC for wheelchair users with right hand transfer.

Helmets are available for visually impaired visitors.

A printed version of the tour is available for hearing impaired visitors.

Guide dogs are welcome on site; we regret we cannot accept pets.
